VINTAGE 1971 14KT GOLD FILLED OMEGA SEAMASTER DEVILLE ORIGINAL GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP CUSTOM DIAL & STRAP BUCKLE
Vintage 1971 14kt gold-filled Omega Seamaster Deville original golf championship custom dial & strap buckle.
This wonderful gentlemen’s Omega is a very interesting watch indeed. Manufactured in 1971 and presented to a participant in a golf championship in that year – ’the +2 award’ which i believe relates to a two over par score.
The model 166.5020 De-Ville was the new ’slim’ version of Omega‘s water-proof line of watches, using a two-piece case with no removable back. The movement is accessed through the front of the watch once the bezel and glass has been removed. Very ingenious at that time, these new cases were exceptionally well made and the movements within are usually found in perfect condition.
Using the omega calibre 565 automatic movement with quick-change date, the example that we have here is in exceptional original condition, which is testament to the wonderful case design which has protected it perfectly over the years.
The 14kt gold filled case case measures 34.5mm across the bezel, not including the crown and 40mm tip-to-tip. The case and bezel are in beautiful original condition with no serious wear, dings or scratches.
The original custom silvered dial is absolutely beautiful, with contrasting gold baton markers and hands. Signed simply ‘Omega Automatic – Deville’ with ‘swiss made below 6. beautifully hand enamelled in black and gold at the 2 o-clock position with ‘+2’.
The back similarly hand engraved with the participants name ‘Richard l Donahue – the + 2 award – 3-31-71’.
You will notice also the original split-stem type winding crown, still in excellent condition & has no real noticeable wear. The watch still retains the original omega gold-plated buckle, though the original leather part was perished and we have fitted a new leather one.
The watch was serviced last year at a cost of $220 and includes the receipt for this. A very cool watch if you have an interest in golf or just one of the best condition Deville’s that you are likely to find.
