VINTAGE 1960’s 9kt. GOLD CASED ‘BERNEX’ WITH ORIGINAL BOX
1960’s 9kt. gold cased ‘Bernex’. explorer type 12-3-6-9 dial & retailed by Penman of St. Helens
This very pretty gentlemen’s wristwatch, manufactured during the 1960’s by Bernex of Switzerland and retailed in England by the jeweller ‘Penman’ of St. Helens.
Measuring 32mm across the bezel , not including the crown and 39mm tip to tip. The three piece case is of 9kt. gold, beautifully styled and quiet slim for the period. The watch fits close to the wrist and comfortably slips under the shirt-cuff, not many watches do.
The wonderfully simple silvered dial is in the style of the Rolex explorer, with alternating 12-3-6-9 applied gold figures and dagger markers. The red tipped arrow-head centre seconds hand gives the dial just the right amount of pizzazz.
The movement is jewelled to the centre and in as-new condition, winding/setting correctly and keeping good time.
The watch is in exceptional original condition throughout, un-polished, though fitted with a new quality alligator-grain strap and has probably spent most of it’s life in the original box.
