VINTAGE 1950’s 18KT GOLD ‘FLYBACK’ CHRONOGRPAH WITH SCIENTIFIC DIAL.
This rare and interesting wristwatch was manufactured in the 1950’s and cased in 18KT gold , measuring 34mm in diameter not including the crown and 40mm tip to tip.
The watch is an unusual ‘flyback’ ‘three pusher’ chronograph, having a third pusher in the centre of thew crown which returns the chronograph hand to zero. These were designed for more precise control over the chronograph functions rather than the usual two push system.
Usually purchased for professional use and often combined with the complex ‘scientific ‘type dial which we see here . This watch is all about the ability to time events accurately to within a fifth of a second.
The beautiful original three coloured silvered dial features the recording and calculating scales occupying the majority, with the actual time of day being a secondary function and given only minimal space in the centre.
Tachometer/telemeter scales for speed and distance travelled feature ,along with the inner 5th of a second timing ring.
The movement made by Landeron is in fabulous condition and working very well.
Wonderful, totally original condition throughout, including the period no-tapered leather strap .
A rare and highly collectable chronograph.
