VINTAGE 1943 JAEGER LECOULTRE STAINLESS-STEEL MILITARY DIAL WATCH P478 MOVEMENT

Vintage 1943 Jaeger Lecoultre stainless-steel military dial watch p478 movement.

This superb gentlemen’s Jaeger Lecoultre wristwatch was manufactured in the midst of ww2. Although not a marked military issued version, it is exactly the same and was made alongside the watches earmarked for use by the British military forces.

The all stainless-steel case measures 34mm across the bezel, not including the crown and 42mm tip-to-tip. These watches, although having a snap-on back as opposed to a screw back, were virtually water-resistant, one of the reasons that they were chosen (other than their exceptional quality) for military use.

The silvered dial is very simple and designed to be read easily in low-light conditions. Heavy luminous figures and broad luminous-filled ‘sword’ hands feature prominently. Signed simply – ‘Jaeger Lecoultre – Swiss’ and in good original condition, the dial exhibits the pleasing patina of age which collectors seem particularly fond of.

The movement is the calibre p478 with centre-seconds, one of the finest quality movements of the period. Beautifully finished and running perfectly, the watch keeping very good time, as you would expect from any Jaeger.

The watch is in 100% original condition, it has never been polished or restored in any way and it is just how we like to find them. Fitted with a new, quality alligator-grain strap. A very smart, highly collectable world war two period wrist-watch.
