1968 OMEGA SEAMASTER DE-VILLE 9KT GOLD AUTOMATIC CALENDAR ‘FULL-SET’ WITH ORIGINAL BOX & RETAILERS GUARANTEE

1968 Omega Seamaster De-Ville 9kt gold automatic calendar ‘full-set’ with original box & retailers guarantee.

This wonderful gentlemen’s Omega was close to the top of the companies range in 1968.

The model 166.5020 De-Ville was the new ’slim’ version of the Seamaster, using a two-piece case with no removable back.

The movement is accessed through the front of the watch once the bezel and glass has been removed. Very ingenious at that time. Using the omega calibre 565 automatic movement, the example that we have here is in ‘as-new’ condition. I have rarely seen a movement as clean as this one, which is testament to the wonderful case design which has protected it perfectly over the years. I would say that it is in the same condition as when it left the factory in 1968.

The solid 9kt gold case measures 34.5mm across the bezel, not including the crown and 40mm tip-to-tip. The case and bezel are in beautiful original condition with no noticeable wear, dings or scratches.

The silvered dial is absolutely beautiful, with contrasting gold baton markers and hands. Signed simply ‘Omega automatic – Deville’ with ‘Swiss Made below 6.

The watch works faultlessly and keeps very good time. The glass is the original, with the tiny omega symbol in the centre. You will notice also the original split-stem type winding crown, which has no real noticeable wear. The watch still retains the original omega signed leather strap with gold-plated buckle, which is still in very sound condition.

The watch was purchased new in 1968 from ‘Reid & Sons’ jewellers in Newcastle Upon Tyne. The original guarantee from Reids is present, along with the original ‘Reids’ embossed omega wallet, i have never seen one of these. Both of the original inner and outer boxes are still present, which are in exceptional condition. We don’t see complete full-set solid gold Seamasters very often and certainly not in wonderful condition such as this one.
