1950’s LEONIDAS ‘BIG-EYES’ CHRONOGRAPH ALL ORIGINAL BEAUTIFUL CONDITION.
1950’s Leonidas ‘big-eyes’ chronograph all original beautiful condition. £1,095
This unusual watch was manufactured during the early 1950’s and has the military type dial with the large diameter subsidiary registers.
Measuring 35mm across the bezel, not including the crown and 43mm tip-to-tip. original brushed / polished finish to the case and nice sharp edges to the lugs.
The movement used here is the Landeron chronograph with 30 minute recorder and though not marked with the calibre number beside the balance as is usual we believe this to be a calibre 48.
The movement is in first class condition and working perfectly. Winds and sets as it should with the chronograph starting and snapping back to zero promptly as it should.
The original silvered dial is in very, very nice condition. Signed simply ’Chronograph – Leonidas’ with luminous figures and simple outer one fifth of a second scale. No longer luminous, the figures have darkened over time and similarly the hands, though this does not detract from their beauty.
The watch is in fabulous original condition throughout, with just a few light scratches to the case and back. Quite possibly still fitted with the original leather strap (though we will include a beautiful open-end croco-grain strap with the watch).
Vintage Leonidas chronographs have seen a huge surge in popularity of late and this particular example does not disappoint. A very collectable military style wristwatch, in a condition rarely seen.
