1918 FIRST WORLD WAR STERLING SILVER HALF-HUNTER WRISTWATCH PORCELAIN ENAMEL DIAL

1918 First World War sterling silver half-hunter wristwatch porcelain enamel dial.

This very cool gentlemen’s wrist-watch is is an amazing one hundred and three years old and still works perfectly.

Manufactured near to the end of ww1 this would most likely have been bought by an officer in one of the services as these watches were particularly marketed for military use.

The flip-up front cover protects the glass and dial underneath, whilst still being able to see the time through the centre aperture. Push the button at the bottom to reveal the wonderful porcelain enamel dial, perfect in every way which is very unusual as they are almost always cracked or chipped.

The heavy radium filled luminous Arabic figures and cathedral hands point to this almost certainly being made for military use.

Measuring 35mm across the bezel, not including the crown and 42mm tip-to-tip it is a substantial watch, but due to clever case design fits very close to the wrist.

The very nice quality 15 jewel movement is adjusted to three positions, a sign of exceptional manufacture and runs well.

The flip up top opens smartly on a hinge and snaps back down firmly as it should, though it looks to have had a small professional repair in the past. The moisture and dust-proof screw on back screws down and unscrews perfectly on their threads and the winding crown is the original ‘onion’ type. Fitted with a new quality crocodile grain strap this watch is still very wearable even today and in the right hands has another one hundred years of life left in it.
